There are several quality smart keyboards applications available for Android, of which Swiftkey or SlideIT are perhaps the best known. But there is growing competition to the established players, coming from Adaptxt Beta, an app that promises faster and fluid texting on your Android tablet.
Developed by Keypoint Technologies, Adaptxt brings some unique features to the table, including the ability to use industry-specific add-ons (like business or medical), a wide range of supported languages (50 at last count), private mode, text learning from Twitter, and much more.
We first reviewed Adaptxt in November of last year, when our Brigitte Novabos was impressed with the apps fluidity and intelligence, even it was still in beta at the time.
Now Adaptxt for Android tablets is about to leave the beta status. Currently, the app is at version 0.9, which means that the launch of the 1.0 release can’t be far away.
New features in Adaptxt 0.9 beta for Android
Since the time we’ve reviewed the app, some new and interesting features were added to the app. Here’s a rundown:- Automatic text replacement;
- Private mode;
- Option to remove accents and diacritics;
- Option to delete user’s words from the suggestion bar;
- Button to hide the keyboard;
- Quick settings to access the most common ATX functions fast;
- Option to post to and learn from Twitter;
- Better suggestions, bug fixes and performance tweaks
Adaptxt learns from every word you type and even from your tweets, making use of smart algorithms that incorporate Keypoint’s linguistic and artificial intelligence R&D. If you are worried about apps recording your passwords, financial information, or other sensitive data, you can quickly disable learning mode by entering the Private mode.
Unlike other smart keyboard apps for Android, Adaptxt is well suited to international users. In addition to the 50 languages supported, you have the option to remove diacritics and accents from your texts and emails, to ensure maximum readability. Also, you can switch easily between languages, by holding the space bar and selecting your desired language.
In addition to the new features in the 0.9 version, the latest update to Adaptxt for Android brings better overall performance and bug fixes. When we did our first review of the app, many of our readers complained about a lag that sometimes occurred when pressing keys, but that issue seems to be solved now.
Speaking of languages, you will have to download your preferred ones as add-ons, but that only takes a minute. This includes industry-specific add-ons, which can be very useful for professionals working in specific niches, such as medicine or science. Currently, all add-ons are free, but the Google Play page of the app says that this won’t last forever. Our advice, get the app while it’s free and make sure to get all the add-ons that you need.
Adaptxt Beta v 0.9 is available for smartphones and tablets running Android 2.1 or higher for free, from the Google Play Store, Amazon Appstore, or from directly from the developer’s site. Give it a try and let us know what you think!
