DROID RAZR M and RAZR HD official is leaked

Motorola’s big press event is about to start, and that means plenty of exciting new Android-related announcements are on their way. One of the devices expected to see the light of day today is a rumored smartphone with edge-to-edge screen.

Based on what we’ve seen so far, we have no evidence that proves that the claim of an edge-to-edge smarpthone is anything more than a rumor. The leak really gave us little to go by, just indicating that it would have no bezel and that it would likely debut under the name RAZR M.

With that in mind, we now have a press shot of two upcoming Motorola smartphones, the Droid RAZR M and the Droid RAZR HD.

As you can see, both of these devices have their bezels intact. The Razr M’s face is taken up mostly by its screen, but it’s still far from the claimed “edge-to-edge” rumor.

What do we know about the two new rumored members of the RAZR family?

The RAZR M is a mid-range device, at least based on the recently leaked hardware specs. The device is powered by a 1.5GHz Snapdragon S4 processor with 1GB of RAM. As for the display, it has a 4.3-inch qHD Super AMOLED display, Gorilla Glass 2 protection, and a 960 x 540 resolution. The phone also has 8GB of internal storage, microSD expansion, an 8MP front cam, 3MP rear cam, NFC, 4G LTE and runs on Android 4.0 ICS.

The details are a little foggier for the Droid RAZR HD, but we do know it is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor. The device is also said to feature a 4.6-inch HD display, microSD and will run Android 4.0 ICS out of the box.

Root in Sprint Galaxy S3 method Works too with T-Mobile

The U.S. Galaxy S3 launch is rather bumpy, with all major carriers having a tough time keeping up with their initial release schedules, but a few buyers in the country have already received their pre-ordered units. In fact, it looks like the Sprint Galaxy S3 root has been already achieved, and the procedure apparently works on T-Mobile Galaxy S3 units too.

The root instructions for the Sprint Galaxy S3 have been already posted on the xda-developers forums, and they’re so detailed that even rookies can try their hand at rooting the handset. It goes without saying that we don’t recommend that you meddle with your newly purchased handset, especially if you’re not comfortable with such procedures in the first place.

However, if you plan to go ahead and root your Sprint Galaxy S3, then you should make sure you back up your data first, just to be on the safe side. Even if you skip that part, the root procedure will not erase your personal data, which is quite convenient. Furthermore, during rooting your device, you’ll also install clockworkmod on it, which will get you a custom recovery.

DroidDog reports that the procedure works with T-Mobile Galaxy S3 versions as well, so in case you already got one and want to root it you’ll have to follow the same instructions. It’s pretty logical to assume that this Sprint Galaxy S3 root method will work with other U.S. Galaxy S3 versions, although that still has to be confirmed with developers.

Finally, before you get on with your rooting, you must know the procedure only works on Windows machines, so in case you only have access to a Mac you’re out of luck for now.

Jailbreak iOS 6 with Redsn0w 0.9.13 is Available

The first beta of iOS 6 has only been in the wild a few days but has already been jailbroken. The DevTeam released a dev build of Redsn0w 0.9.13 to handle the jailbreak which works on iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and iPod touch 4G, though each device is tethered for the time being and there are a handful of major issues with the jailbreak that should prevent most users from attempting to use it on their devices.

As the versioning implies, Redsn0w 0.9.13dev1 is intended for developers only. There are many components that do not work, including Apple’s default apps, many 3rd party apps, Cydia apps, and more. Furthermore, this version of the tethered jailbreak does not install Cydia. Because of all the caveats this is really a proof of concept and should not be widely adopted beyond those developing jailbreak tweaks or apps, but it does suggest that when iOS 6 is released to the public a jailbreak will accompany it rather quickly.

Download Redsn0w 0.9.13dev

For the brave devs that wish to try this, these are direct links:

If you’re a developer and you wish to try this out, point Redsn0w at the iOS 6 IPSW file to jailbreak, and then boot tethered. As the Dev Team mentions, anyone attempting to use this version of redsn0w will need a registered UDID to activate their device.

iOS 6 is scheduled for a public release this fall.

Using Redsn0w to Jailbreak your iOS 5.1.1

The recently released update to Redsn0w 0.9.12 brings the untethered jailbreak to virtually all iOS 5.1.1 users. The latest version of redsn0w has two paths to the untethered jailbreak and which you use will depend on your iOS device, with A5 hardware being the simplest and other hardware requiring the traditional DFU mode method. Neither is particularly challenging, here they are grouped by device, the instructions below cover both.
Super Easy: iPhone 4S, iPad 2, iPad 3
Moderately Easy DFU Method: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPod touch 3rd and 4th gen, iPad 1
Note: if you are already jailbroken tethered, launch Cydia to search for and install Rocky Raccoon untether. You do not need to rejailbreak your device.

Jailbreaking iOS 5.1.1 Untethered with Redsn0w

Upgrade to iOS 5.1.1 before beginning, quit iTunes beforehand as well. Depending on hardware you may or may not need to go into DFU mode:
  • Download Redsn0w 0.9.12 (direct link for Mac or Windows) and launch redsn0w
  • Connect the iOS device to the computer and click “Jailbreak”
    • For iPhone 4S, iPad 2, and iPad 3, click “Next” and let redsn0w run the jailbreak
    • For iPhone 4 & 3GS, iPod touch 3rd and 4th gen, and iPad 1, put the device into DFU mode: hold Power button for 3 seconds, continue holding Power and now hold the Home button for 5 seconds, release Power button but hold home button for another 15 seconds>
  • Let Redsn0w run and install the jailbreak, the device will reboot itself and you will be able to find Cydia on the home screen to verify the device is jailbroken
When finished, you can reboot the device freely without having to connect it to a computer for a tethered boot. The ability to freely reboot is the primary difference between a tethered vs untethered jailbreak.

Download Now!, Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 and Jailbreak your iOS 5.1.1

The popular Redsn0w jailbreak utility has been updated to bring untethered jailbreaks to iOS 5.1.1 on most iDevices. Versioned as redsn0w 0.9.12b1, the tool supports the following hardware on 5.1.1: iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPad, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPod touch 3rd and 4th gen, and Apple TV1 and ATV2. The A5 support is identical to that found in the recently released Absinthe 2 for iOS 5.1.1, which focused on the new iPad and iPhone 4S.

If you are already jailbroken tethered with iOS 5.1.1 you can use Cydia to download the Rocky Raccoon untether, you do not need to re-run Redsn0w. Likewise, if you’ve already installed the rocky-raccoon package to untether a 5.1.1 jailbreak there is no reason to download or use the new redsnow tool.

Download Redsn0w 0.9.12b1

These are direct download links from the iPhoneDevTeam:
Windows users must run redsn0w in administrator mode.
If you like to follow guides, here is a simple tutorial on using Redsn0w for an untethered iOS 5.1.1 jailbreak.

AT&T HTC One X Rooted, bootloader is unlocked

We finally have good news for those AT&T HTC One X users out there who like to root and flash ROMS.
A member of XDA-Forums named grankin01 has come up with an unofficial way to unlock the bootloader on HTC’s uber phone. This is particularly excellent news, considering we have no idea if HTC is going to release an official bootloader unlock tool.

Grankin01’s method of unlocking the bootloader basically tricks the AT&T version of the phone into thinking it’s a Rogers HTC One X, a version that does have an unlocked bootloader. If you are proficient at rooting and command line, you shouldn’t have much trouble with this method; otherwise, proceed with caution because it can be a bit tricky.

it Work

The phone needs to be rooted before the steps can be performed, and you also need a hex editor. As usual, remember to back up your data before attempting the operation, because it will all be erased!

Follow the instructions below and you’ll finally be able to flash custom ROMs onto your device. If you give it a shot, let us know how it goes!

All the instructions necessary can be found on this XDA thread. Happy unlocking!

Step by step to Jailbreak iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch on iOS 5.1.1 with Absinthe 2.0

The newly released Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak app may be one of the easiest to use jailbreaking tools of all time. If you’re interested in exploring the jailbreak world or running third party tweaks on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, here is how to jailbreak any such device that is running iOS 5.1.1, yes that includes the new iPad 3 and iPhone 4S.

If you are already jailbroken on iOS 5.1.1 but stuck with a tether, just launch Cydia and search for “Rocky Racoon” to untether your existing device. You do not need to run Absinthe. For everyone else, here is how to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 untethered:
  1. Connect your iOS device to the computer via USB and do a quick manual local backup by right-clicking on the device name in iTunes and choosing “Back Up”. You will need this in the odd event something goes wrong.
  2. Download Absinthe 2.0 and launch the Absinthe utility
  3. Click on the Jailbreak button and let Absinthe perform its magic, this may take a minute or two
  4. Absinthe will inform you when the jailbreak is finished, when done look for the Cydia icon on the iOS home screen
  5. Launch Cydia and enjoy
That’s about it. Because Absinthe 2 is untethered, you are free to reboot at any time without being attached to a computer. If you want to undo the jailbreak at any point you can restore from the iTunes backup you made and be back to normal.

Download Now! Absinthe 2.0 Jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 Released

The much anticipated Absinthe 2.0 jailbreak has been released by the JailbreakDreamTeam. The utility allows for an untethered jailbreak of iOS 5.1.1 on virtually all idevices, including iPad, iPad 2, iPad 3, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPod touch 3rd and 4th gen.

An untethered jailbreak means the device is free to reboot on it’s own without boot assistance and without connecting to a computer.

In order to use the free tool, you must be running iOS 5.1.1 as no other versions are supported.

Users who are already jailbroken on iOS 5.1.1 but stuck tethered can use the Rocky Racoon tool to untether their jailbreak, a free download found on Cydia.

Rooting HTC EVO 4G LTE, courtesy of zedomax from XDA

HTC EVO 4G LTE is Rooted

While just a week ago we were getting worried about the HTC EVO 4G LTE’s release, due to a customs debacle that delayed US shipments, the good news about Sprint’s new flagship are now coming in packs.

Less than 24 hours after the first units should have started shipping to those of you who pre-ordered the phone, the independent Android developers community has itself made the device more accessible to the masses.

That’s right, folks, there’s already a root method available for the EVO 4G LTE and it’s pretty simple and straightforward. The entire step-by-step guide on how to root (and unroot) the new handheld can be found on this XDA-developers forum thread, started by Senior Member zedomax.

The root method used is the same one that made the ICS Asus Transformer Prime rootable back in the day, and only involves installing a couple of drivers and then running a small script. Linux and Mac users will be happy to find out that they don’t even have to install drivers, but just unzip a file and run a basic script.

According to zedomax, the root process “can’t brick your phone in any way” and is completely safe, but then again, if you don’t want to say goodbye to your brand-new device’s warranty, you should think twice before doing this and installing any kind of root-enabled apps.

Also, if you have trouble following written instructions, zedomax has been kind enough to put up three video tutorials with clear step-by-step instructions on how to root the EVO 4G LTE using Windows, Linux, Ubuntu, or OS X. Check out all the clips below, and, if you’re one of the lucky first users of the EVO 4G LTE, handle the root with care!

The Way Unlock New iPhone Should Work With Any Model

Unlocking your iPhone so that you could use a SIM from a different mobile carrier is generally something for tech-savvy person to do. It  generally requires you to have the proper unlocking software for the right firmware of the right version of your iPhone.

You’ll also want to time it properly because once you unlock your phone you won’t be able to get official firmware updates and such therefore while other people’s phones get more and more upgrades yours will be left in the dust. This complicated unlocking process may no longer be the case however as a  group of hackers have developed a new system that completely works around the process and can unlock any iPhone running on any firmware update.

This is because the new system is not really unlocking the phone as much as it as activating it using a different SIM unsupported by the iPhone’s system. The hack will activate the phone even with a different SIM card inserted. This does mean however that there will be a few server issues depending on the carrier of the SIM you decide to insert into the phone. You will also have to conduct the whole unlocking process again if you decide to switch SIM cards.

The whole process, as laid out by the developing hackers Laforet and Loktar_Sun, is a complicated 28 step procedure that is not for people with limited skills and knowledge when it comes to handling gadgets. The process has been broken down however into easy to follow steps which you can find here on iClarified.

This may all seem like a very complicated process just to use the SIM card that you want and the payment plan that you want but it is all a very worthwhile procedure if you want some work-around room and freedom, especially if you are in a country not supported by AT&T.
