Soon release Huawei Ascend P1 in European, priced at €450

After hitting China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Australia, Huawei’s first (sort of) high-end smartphone looks finally ready to be made available in Europe. The Ascend P1 has popped up on Amazon Germany and Unieuro Italy‘s websites, where it’s almost equally priced, but neither of the two retailers has announced a release date or a pre-order start for the handheld.

The 4.3-incher is set to go for €449 in Germany and for €449.90 in Italy, both prices being, of course, for unsubsidized, SIM-free versions of the phone. That would convert into around $565, at today’s rates, which might mean a lot for a US tech user, but is not that much by European standards.

HTC’s One S, for example, goes for about as much in Italy and Germany, and the Ascend P1 does hold a few cards to at least get in contention with the second-best HTC One smartphone. If you’ve missed its introduction from way back at the CES, you should know that the P1 will be powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz TI OMAP processor and will be sporting a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with 960 x 540 pixels resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass.

The running of Android 4.0 ICS, the 8 MP rear-facing camera and the 1 GB of RAM make the Ascend P1 at least a decent phone to fit that gap between mid-range and high-end, while its design and measurements make it almost one of a kind. Weighing in at 110 grams (3.88 ounces), the 4.3-incher measures a mere 7.7 mm (0.3 inches) in thickness, being as fashionable and elegant as it could get.

Then again, Huawei had an even thinner and lighter phone in store a while back, the Ascend P1 S, which was supposed to come with the exact same tech specs as the phone we’re talking about today. Unfortunately, we’ve been hearing very little about the P1 S over the last few months, so there’s a chance the “project” has been abandoned and the phone won’t be seeing the light of day after all.

We are currently expecting the Ascend P1 to be unveiled in the US as well, after spotting the phone getting FCC approval a while back. Before anything, though, we’ll be keeping you in touch with its European “development” and we will be informing you when it will start shipping from retailers and what major carriers will be picking it up. Stay tuned and let us know if you think of getting Huawei’s Ascend P1 anytime soon.
