Firmware update for Asus Transformer Prime and gets face unlock

With several high-profile Asus products set to hit the market soon, namely the Asus Transformer Pad Infinity and the Asus Padfone, the Taiwanese havn’t quite forgotten about owners of the Transformer Prime.

Mobile Syrup reports that a number of Transformer Prime owners in the US and Canada have received a new OTA update on their quad-core slate. There are also reports that the update has been rolled out in the UK.

The new 9.4.2.28 firmware is expected to bring several enhancements to the Prime’s ICS experience. Those who have applied the update on their Transformer Prime said that they are noticing a better browsing experience while using the stock browser, as well as an improved battery life. It also comes with a new notification that lets you know when you attach that free GPS dongle on the tablet. The much promised face unlock feature is finally working.

Here are the complete release notes for the update:

  • GPS dongle fix & local notification
  • Ethernet UI support to set Ethernet connect policy when screen is off
  • Add system bar lock settings for showing/hiding system info
  • Enable face unlock feature
  • Support Bluetooth HDP
  • 3rd party app upgrade
  • Other bug fix

The last major software update for the Transformer Prime was rolled out by Asus in late March, so hopefully the new one will address some issues that owners have about the Prime since then. Have you received the 9.4.2.28 firmware update on your Asus Transformer Prime? Anything else you notice on the tablet that hasn’t been mentioned above?
