Now Available in google play "My Xbox Live" Android app

Released for iOS-based devices quite some time ago, My Xbox Live has finally been made available for Android. The new app is clearly not as functional and complex as the iOS one, which has seen several updates, but it’s still nice to see Microsoft gearing some of its attention to Android users.

My Xbox Live for Android is available for free in Google Play, and there are a number of things we like at the app from the get-go. First off, the user interface is just about as friendly and intuitive as on iOS, with minimalistic design, but functionality kept intact.

Secondly, as far as features go, there are a bunch of things you can do with the new Android app. You can check out game trailers and promotional videos, track your Xbox achievements in all the games you love, and compare them with your LIVE friends, change your 3D avatar, edit your profile, as well as interact with friends through messages.

You’ll, of course, need to set up an Xbox Live account to enjoy all of the app’s functionality, but I’m almost positive that, if you’ve crossed paths with any of Microsoft’s game consoles, you’re already familiar with Xbox Live.

As you might imagine, the Android app is not awfully demanding, so you should have no trouble running it on any device released these past couple of years. Officially, the app offers support for “most Android 2.2+ smartphones, with WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) screen resolution or higher”.

The single most important feature lacking from the Android app is tethering, a function currently only supported by the iOS version. With tethering, you can turn your iPhone into an Xbox remote, which is the kind of functionality we would have loved to see introduced to Android devices as well.

Be that as it may, if you’re an Xbox heavy gamer and you would like to check out your Live messages or interact with your Live friends on the go, the new Android app is definitely a must. And, who knows, we might see an update soon enough, that would bring the app on par with the iOS version.
